Introduction

The course is aimed at drivers and crew (including office staff and management) involved with transport operations in the private and public sector. The course will cover all aspects of driver and crew responsibilities whilst operating company vehicles. It also details the many other areas of legislation that directly affect the drivers on a day to day basis, such as road safety, drivers’ hour’s rules and the safety of loads on vehicles, internal policies and procedures such as mobile phone policy, seat belt usage, speed limits and driver defect training using the company walk around check sheet to demonstrate how to complete correctly. The course is classroom-based and is suitable for a maximum of 20 participants. It will also include a 30 minute practical demonstration of a walk around check process.

Course objectives/aims

The one aim of the course is to give clear driver safety and defect training and induction to all drivers and crew and to outline company policy and procedures in relation to the driving function. More specifically, it is to cover the legal requirements contained in Safety Health and Welfare Act 2005 and Commercial Vehicle Roadworthiness Act 2012.
